Sheridan's second grade team, Mrs. Xiong and Mrs. Holmes.

Sheridan Elementary welcomes teacher, Mary Holmes, who joins Ka Xiong on our second grade team.

Expectations

At the end of second grade, your child will be able to:

- Show that she/he can use reading to get information and enjoyment
- Read at least 25 books for information or entertainment, talk about them, and retell them in his/her own words.
- Share personal experiences that connect to a book she/he read.
- Write a story with a beginning, middle and ending.
- Follow directions that have multiple steps
- Use details and examples when speaking.
- Check his/her work for spelling, grammar and punctuation
- Tell the difference between fact and fantasy and fact and fiction.
- Tell time, read a calendar and a thermometer and measure things

Identify shapes and patterns
- Make and read graphs
- Read and write numbers to 1,000
- Use more than one way to solve a math problem and explain the reasoning they used to solve the math problem the way they did.
- Count and write money amounts using coins and dollars
- Complete and describe number patterns, such as when counting by threes, fives or tens.
- Correctly add and subtract two and three digit numbers
- Know addition and subtraction facts up to 18
- Identify simple fractions such as halves and fourths
