Sheridan Elementary has 2 bands and a small string group, directed by Eric Dahlberg.  Our students play the flute, clarinet, trumpet, alto saxophone, percussion, violin, baritone horn, trombone, tenor saxophone, oboe, and piccolo.

Our bands are separated into two groups; the Apollo (beginner) band, which is open to students grade 4-6, and the Encore (advanced) band, which is open to students in grades 5 and 6.  Sheridan's string group is open to members from the 4th through 6th grades.

a twice a year; once at our spring concert and once away from school.  Field trip destinations change from year to year, but Sheridan students usually perform at other elementary schools and retirement homes.

Mr. Dahlberg gives 30 minute lessons once a week to groups of students. Close to a month before concerts, the entire band gets together to practice as a full ensemble.  Sheridan has a limited number of instruments available for students with financial need, but there is no guarantee that any specific instruments will be available.

Students are encouraged to rent their own instruments from music stores in the area.  Prior to students joining the band, parents are encouraged to take their children to music stores and let them look at and try out different instruments to see what insturments their children are most interested in.  Band recruitment takes place in spring for 3rd graders and fall for 4th through 6th graders.

Mr. Dahlberg has 12 years experience as a band instructor and has been playing music since before he was in fourth grade.
