Here is a list of websites Sheridan teachers use in their classroom and in the lab.  All of these links are external to our website, and are not maintained by our staff.

Math  

National Library of Virtual Manipulatives for Interactive Mathematics.  Don't let the name scare you.  This is a great website with math puzzles and demonstrations for all different grade levels that teach kids math concepts in an interactive, easy to understand way.  Why does length times width equal area?  Why does A squared plus B squared equal C squared?  Those questions are more are explored here.

British Broadcasting (BBC) Math Facts This website covers multiplcation tables.  Requires the Shockwave pluggin. 

Arcytech Geometric Blocks  Geometric blocks can be moved around and put together in different patterns at this website.

Rice University Fractions site for elementary students  This website offeres explanations of what fractions are and games that involve adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing them.

Teach R Kids Math This is a great website with activities that incorporate real world skills, such as counting money, reading a calendar, telling time, and recognizing patterns and sequences.

British Broadcasting (BBC) Probability games.  What are the chances a red fish will be picked out of a fish tank?  That and other games can be found here.  Requires the Shockwave pluggin.

AAA Math A website with dozens of math skills catagorized by theme as well as grade level.

Telling Time

Trevor Day School clock quiz This is a great website created by teachers and students at the Trevor Day School in New York City that teachers children to tell time.

Kids Online Resources Telling Time website  Another website that with games that develop time tellings skills.  Requires the Flash pluggin.

British Broadcasting Telling Time Another website with time telling games.  Requires the Flash pluggin.

Reading

Cliffard The Big Red Dog  A website with read along stories and reading games for young students.

Read to Young Readers A website that has stories for young readers to read and that can be read to young readers.

Language Arts

GameGoo - website with plenty of interactive language arts games for grades 3-6.  Requires a 5.0 web browser or later.

PBSkids Language Arts Games from PBS that deal with letters, grammer and other parts of language arts.

KinderHive Word Games  Letter and word games for kindergarden level students.

Multifocused

The Digital Ride  This is a website built for St. Paul Public Schools with links to many other superb educational sites.

FunSchool.com This website contains educational games in many different areas for different grade levels.  Best with a fast network connection.

Research Sites

Grolier Online Research Encyclopedia Actually several encyclopedias at one site.  This is a world class research site with articles, photos and films on hundreds of thousands of topics.

Yahooligans The premier search engine for elementary students.

Citation Machine Students can input citation information for research project to this website and it will create their biblographies for them.  Where was this when I was in school?

The Amazing Picture Machine  A friendly, kid safe picture search engine for the internet. 

Ask Jeeves for Kids A great search site!  Student type in questions such as 'how do cars work?' or 'why do flowers grow?' and the website gives the student links to child safe websites with the answers.  Also has links to research tools.

Findsounds.com A fun, friendly sound search engine.  Sounds can be played over the internet or saved to a local computer.
