Arrival and Dismissal Expectations and Procedures
SCHOOL DAY STARTS: 9:15 A.M.
The school will be open for children at 8:50 a.m., which is 10 minutes before school begins for non-breakfast students. Students who eat breakfast will enter the building at 8:30 a.m.
Please see that your child or children do not arrive at the building before the appororiate time, since we do not have adult supervision for them. Children are expected to wait outside the building until the appropriate time of the entrance, either 8:50 a.m. for non breakfast students or 8:50 a.m. for breakfast students.
SCHOOL DAY ENDS: 3:45. P.M.
Please do not come in the building to get your child before dismissal time because this disrupts the end of the school day for students and teachers. Thank you for your cooperation.
This school dismissal time is 3:45 p.m. Our first concern is the safety of the children. However, because of set working hours for some staff and appointments and meetings scheduled immediately after the school day ends, we are unable to assume responsibility for attending to students who do not leave the building at dismissal. Please cooperate with us on this matter and pick up your children on time. Or, if there is something we need to know about the circumstance, please telephone the Principal or office at (651) 293-8745.
Thank you!
WALKERS
In order to keep discipline problems to a minimum, parents are asked to discuss proper conduct and behavior with their children, while walking to and from school on the patrol lines. Parents must be responsible for their children crossing busy streets. If certain children repeatedly cause problems in the patrol lines, parents will be contacted and action will be taken to remove students from the line.
If children must walk to and from school in a different line for a legitimate reason, please send a note informing the school, and arrangements can be made, All children who are walker are expected to walk to and from school in patrol lines. Patrol lines are only responsible for crossing the corners adjacent to school as outlined below.
SAFETY PATROLS
Patrols help with safety of the children as they walk to and from school. Patrol routes are color-coded. Students are required to follow the patrol instructions. The school patrols will be at the corners to escort children to and from school at 8:30 A.M. Not student should be at the corners before this time.
PATROLS CROSS AT:
White Bear N.E. yellow
White Bear N.W. blue
White Bear S.E. green
White Bear S.W. black
Third Street West red
Flandrau brown
If you are home when students are going to and from school and you observe misbehavior, we ask that you show your concern by:
- Speaking to the students.
- Call the parents of violating students.
- Call the school at (651) 29808745
(very effective when you have the names of the students.)
- Call the police if the incident is serious
BUSSERS
Some students assigned to Sheridan from other areas of the school district are eligible to be transported to our school by bus. Students are expected to follow bus safety regulations set forth by the St. Paul School Board and Transportation Department outlined in the transportation brochure. If a child seriously misbehaves or repeatedly does not follow the bus rules, the child’s bus privileges may be suspended. Suspension from bus service does note mean suspension from school.
Children who ride the bus will receive bus safety training in September. They will be given a bus safety brochure. Please review it with your child.
Children may not go home on another bus that is not assigned to them. Changes in pick up or drop off for children who ride the bus must be made three days in advance and must be a permanent change.
Please Call the School (651) 293-8745 if you have questions and/or problems with bus service.
In Care of Severe Weather
In the event of severe weather, listen with WCCO (830 AM) or location television for the listing of school closings. It is essential that families discuss with their children where they should go should the school be closed during the day and no one is at home to receive them.
