Sheridan Elementary includes a full Special Education/Learning Disability staff.  We have an LD teacher, speech therapists, a staff psychologist, a staff social worker, and a staff occupational therapist to help students with academic, speech/language, behavioral/psychological, social/emotional and/or fine motor disabilities, respectively.

Sheridan Elementary is a Level 3 LD site, which means that it can provide special education/learning disabled services up to roughly 400-450  minutes of service a week per child.  If a student needs more services than Sheridan can provide, they will be referred to another location that can provide the needed services.

To receive Special Education/Learning Disability Services, a student must first qualify according to an assesment.  If a student has not already been assessed, teachers, specialists or parents can refer a student to the special ed team for evaluation.  The student will be tested, and if the student meets the criteria from the State to qualify for any of the above-mentioned special ed services, they can receive services.  The entire process from referral to completion takes between 2 and 3 months.  Depending on the disability, diagnoses can take place at different times.  Speech disabilities, for example, can often be diagnosed in early childhood while other disabilities manifest later in development.

Farah Khosravani is Sheridan Elementary's Learning Disabled Academic teacher.  She has taught for 11 years. Her schedule can be found in the contact information section of the website.
